The brand

Union Los Angeles stands as a shining example of streetwear culture, expertly blending fashion with functionality to meet the refined tastes of its customers.

Beginnings and Growth

Founded in 1989 on Spring Street in New York City’s SoHo neighborhood, Union was created to highlight the emerging talents in music, art, and fashion within the local community. It served as a channel for unique items from around the world. The Los Angeles location appeared shortly afterward, led by co-founder Eddie Cruz, who aimed to bring the same creative energy to the West Coast. Over the years, Union LA has become the only remaining store, now managed by Chris Gibbs, a former employee of the original New York City shop.

Brand Philosophy

Union LA’s guiding principle is simple: select brands that hold personal significance, providing clothing that balances style and usability. The store avoids overly dramatic designs, preferring timeless pieces with a modern edge. This strategy has solidified its reputation as a source of genuine streetwear, deeply ingrained in the cultural fabric of Los Angeles.

Carefully Selected Collections

The store offers a wide variety of products, from t-shirts and hoodies to shirts, outerwear, and pants. Each piece captures the spirit of Los Angeles streetwear culture, often drawing from Chris Gibbs’ personal experiences and travels.

Collaborative Efforts

Union LA has a rich history of partnerships with respected brands, resulting in exclusive and highly coveted collections. Noteworthy collaborations include:

Nike: The Union x Nike Air Force 180 “Clerks Pack” in 2005 kicked off a series of successful joint ventures, including the Air Jordan 1 High “Storm Blue” and the Air Jordan 4 Retro ‘Off Noir’.

Birkenstock: The Union Birkenstock “Bimshire” Clog combines elements from the Boston and Zurich models, reflecting Chris Gibbs’ preferred styles.

Jacques Marie Mage: This eyewear collection highlights both brands’ shared appreciation for creativity and craftsmanship, particularly influenced by Japanese artistry.

In the Future

Union LA remains dedicated to supporting up-and-coming designers and offering curated selections that resonate with its community. The brand continues to grow, seeking new collaborations and expanding its impact within the fashion industry. With a steadfast commitment to authenticity and innovation, Union Los Angeles is set to shape the future of streetwear culture for years to come.
